Tchaikowsky channels Klingon opera

During our final performance of the Tchaikowsky first symphony this weekend (with a very talented young English conductor, Edward Gardner), I finally figured out what the end of the big horn lick in the second movement sounds like. It sounds just like the excerpt from the Klingon opera Aktuh and Melota sung by the four-armed bar singer in the Star Trek: TNG episode Unification Part II.

So which came first? Tchaikowsky or the Klingons?
